The cards values are 2 to 10 are all taken at face value so 2 is worth 2 points, 3 is worth 3 points and so on, the jack, queen and king cards are all worth 10 points and the ace is worth 1 or 11 depending on the value that you have already, so if you have a king and an ace you have the 21 because a king is worth 10 and the ace is worth 11, if you have for example a king and an 8 and you want to take the chance you may get an ace which will then count as a 1 and your total would be 19.

If you are happy with the cards that you are dealt at the start and you feel you can win with your cards then stick and don’t take any more cards, but if you feel you could go higher then say twist/ hit and the dealer will deal you another playing card if you and the dealer end up with the same amount then the dealer wins and if you go bust or the dealer has a higher value than you then again the dealer wins but if you have a higher value than the dealer then you will win whatever cash is up for grabs.
